The Department of Environment of the School of Environment, and the Department of Sound and Image Arts of the School of Music and Audiovisual Arts, of the Ionian University, offer the Interdepartmental Postgraduate Programme of Studies entitled "New Technologies in Environmental Education and Sustainable Development". The MSc is organised and operates in accordance with Senate decision No. 18/29-05-2020 (Government Gazette 3610/29.08.2020, p. B'). The Msc awards a Master's level Degree entitled "New Technologies in Environmental Education and Sustainable Development". The programme of study is full-time only, with no option for part-time studies. Admission places offered to this programme for the academic year 2020-2021 is limited to 30.
Scope
The MSc in "New Technologies in Environmental Education and Sustainable Development" aims at promoting the development of applications of modern technologies in Environmental Education and Sustainable Development. There is a special focus on the use of Creative Technologies for the presentation of educational content using modern audiovisual media; but also, on the opportunities developed for creative expression on environmental issues via contemporary forms of digital art.
The main aim of the MSc is to provide the necessary knowledge and creative skills in order to implement training programs that enhance the dissemination of sustainable development and the sustainable use of natural resources This interdisciplinary specialisation results from the study of topics related to the Environment, Education, Contemporary& Creative Audiovisual Technologies, and Digital Art.
Programmedetails
The MSc is structured in three semesters ; the first two semester include tha taught part and the third semester is scheduled for the research and writing of a dissertation The taught-part consists of theory classes and practical work (individual or in groups), that guide students to understand the key concepts of the MSc curriculum. The guided research dissertation part (third semester)focuses on student research and can be written in the Englishlanguage.
The MSc modulesare a semester-long and are delivered in the form of seminars, workshops,orguided research work depending on the subject. The language of instruction is in Greek, while some operations can be implemented in English as well (e.g in the case of guest lecturers from abroad).Theattendance of the educational units is carried out either in the class or remotely (up to 50% of the total teaching hours of the educational modules and/or seminars), for which a distance learning platform is available. Research work for the taught modules is monitored by the module supervisor with meetings in the class or bydistance.The methods of assessmentof each module are communicated at the beginning of the corresponding semester.
In case that emergency measures as defined by the Ministry of Education are in place to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the process of distance learning is de facto enforced, the MSc has the appropriate infrastructure, and, will operate, in accordance with the Ministry's circulars and the legislation regulating the relevant issues.
