Collaboration Between Ionian University and the Holy Metropolis of Accra

 

On Tuesday, September 3, 2024, a five-year (5) memorandum of cooperation was signed between Ionian University and the Holy Metropolis of Accra of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa.

The signing took place in the Conference Hall of the Department of Environment of Ionian University in Zakynthos.

The memorandum was signed by the Rector Professor Andreas Floros, and His Eminence Metropolitan Daniel of Accra.

The purpose of this memorandum is to foster and deepen the relationship between the two institutions, with a focus on developing educational and research activities.

The Holy Orthodox Metropolis of Accra will assist in cultural activities and in the teaching of Greek language, history, and culture.

The objectives of the collaboration include organizing educational programs, establishing an Academy of Studies in Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire, and implementing joint research projects with mutually beneficial results. It also aims to organize conferences, seminars, distance lectures, summer schools, and presentations on relevant research topics, as well as to exchange information on educational programs, publications, theses, books, and journals related to the collaboration. Additionally, the partnership will promote joint scientific and cultural events, lectures, distance education, courses, and the teaching of the Greek language (as a second foreign language), history, and culture, among others.

The academic responsibility and coordination for the implementation and monitoring of the planned actions, on behalf of Ionian University, has been assigned to Associate Professor Dr. Christos Karydis, President of the Department of Environment.

In attendance at the signing ceremony were the esteemed Rector Professor Andreas Floros, Dean of the School of Environment Professor Dionysios Koulougliotis, Professor Katerina Kambasi, Associate Professor Aristotelis Martinis, Assistant Professor Panagiota Manti, and Dr. Eleni Gianni a member of the Special Teaching Staff.
