INTERDEPARTMENTAL POSTGRADUATE STUDY PROGRAM (MSc)
“PRESERVATION & MANAGEMENT OF CULTURAL HERITAGE”
ACADEMIC YEAR 2025–2026
The Department of Environment and the Department of Archives, Library Science and Museology of the Ionian University jointly organize and operate, for the academic year 2025–2026, the Interdepartmental Postgraduate Study Program (MSc) entitled “Preservation & Management of Cultural Heritage” (Government Gazette 4823/Β’/02-11-2020 and 2447/Β’/12-04-2023), in accordance with the provisions of Law 4957/2022.
Target Group
The postgraduate program is primarily addressed to:
- graduates in conservation of works of art and antiquities (University or Technological Education sector),
- archaeologists,
- historians,
- museologists,
- librarians,
- archivists,
- collection managers,
- visual artists,
- educators,
- graduates of the natural sciences (physics, chemistry, etc.), and, more generally,
- graduates of higher education wishing to specialize in the management and preservation of cultural heritage assets.
The number of available places for postgraduate students for the academic year 2025–2026 is 25.
Structure of the Program
The MSc curriculum is structured in three semesters. During the first two semesters students attend Course Units, while the third semester is dedicated to the Master’s Thesis. From the end of the second semester (summer period or September) onwards, students undertake a 120-hour internship at a Cultural Institution.
Approximately 90% of the courses are delivered through distance learning, while the remaining 10% is conducted in person at the facilities of the Department of Environment in Zakynthos.
In-person teaching takes place during weekends (Saturday morning–afternoon and/or Sunday morning), enabling participation of students who work or reside outside Zakynthos.
Eligibility
Final-year students of the above categories may also apply. If admitted, they may enroll in the Program only provided that they have completed their studies by the official starting date of the courses.

Application period: Monday 09/06/2025 until Wednesday 03/09/2025, 14:00.
Applicants must upload the following documents:
- Copy of national ID or passport
- One recent photograph
- Undergraduate degree certificates (or certificate of completion for final-year students), accompanied—where applicable—by documentation of the place of study for degrees awarded by foreign institutions operating in Greece through franchising agreements and listed by DOATAP. Recognition of academic equivalence is not required for degrees awarded by foreign institutions included in the National Registry of Recognized Foreign Higher Education Institutions (DOATAP).
- Official Transcript of Records of their undergraduate studies
- Certificate of at least good knowledge of the English language
- Detailed Curriculum Vitae
- Statement of Purpose indicating the reasons for attending the Program (and chosen specialization(s), if applicable)
- Two (2) letters of recommendation
- Any additional supporting documents (if available), such as professional experience, scientific publications, or conference presentations.
Evaluation of Candidates
Interviews with applicants will be conducted within a reasonable period after the application deadline via teleconference. Interview performance will be taken into account in the final evaluation, which is carried out in accordance with the MSc Postgraduate Studies Regulations (https://envi.ionio.gr/preserv-ch/gr/regulations/). The names of admitted candidates will be announced on the Program website, and successful applicants will also be notified individually (electronically or by phone).
Tuition Fees
Attendance in the MSc requires the payment of tuition fees totaling €1,900.00. Fees may be paid either in full upon registration or in installments as follows:
- a) €400.00 upon completion of registration
b) €300.00 no later than one week before the start of the first-semester examination period
c) €400.00 no later than two weeks after the start of the second semester
d) €500.00 no later than one week before the start of the second-semester examination period
e) €300.00 within two weeks from the start of the third semester
In case of withdrawal from the Program at any stage, fees already paid are non-refundable.
Up to 30% of admitted postgraduate students may be exempted from paying tuition fees, in accordance with Article 86 of Law 4957/2022. Scholarship recipients and students exempted from tuition fees may be required, during their studies, to provide laboratory, tutorial, or other support services to the Departments of Environment and/or Archives, Library Science & Museology.
By decision of the Program Studies Committee, during the second academic semester a scholarship in the form of a tuition-fee exemption of €800.00 (corresponding to the last two installments) may be awarded to the student achieving the highest academic performance among students of the same cohort during the first semester, provided that all course units of that semester have been successfully completed.
