, Martinis AristotelisThe educational module aims to provide foundational understanding of biodiversity – its principles, components, types, and measurement through indicators and monitoring systems – and of environmental policy and its role in protecting biodiversity and supporting sustainable management of natural and cultural environments. It addresses species abundance as a biodiversity metric; temporal and spatial dimensions of biodiversity; species distribution patterns; intrinsic and utilitarian values and human impacts; principles and tools of environmental policy for sustainable development; European and national policy frameworks; citizens’ environmental rights; spatial planning for landscape protection; and ecosystem services, environmental justice, and socio-economic dimensions of the ecological crisis.
